The Summer is Winding Down

Unfortunately, something is wrong with my camera lens so I have not been able to take pictures for my recipe posts for a while. I hope to get it fixed soon. Today is the last day of August which reminds all of us that the summer is winding down. I decided to share some of my farmers’ market pictures, as a way to reminisce about one of the great joys of summer – fresh vegetables and fruits. I am lucky enough to live so close to this wonderful farmers’ market in the Lake Anne section of Reston, Virginia and have been taking full advantage of it. It’s been my Saturday morning ritual to go to the market as long as I am in town. Every time, I come back with lots of fresh zucchini, eggplants, tomatoes, peppers, peaches, etc. Yes, they are a little more expensive than the supermarket prices but well worth it. I will greatly miss those flavorful tomatoes with which no supermarket tomatoes can compete. All summer long, I have really enjoyed cooking and eating the produce I bring home from the farmers’ market. I have grilled them, deep-fried, and used them to make salads, sauces, and stir-fry dishes. I was working on my stir-fried chicken and summer vegetables recipe when my Nikon D80 decided not to cooperate. Luckily, I have these pictures to share with you for now, hoping that the stir-fry recipe and others will follow soon.
